6/1- Nam Le

The story written by Nam Le is a story about the relationship between a son and his father, who has to witness the atrocity of war for a large portion of his life. It talks about the gap between the generations of Asian American. An interesting portion of the story is about how the father treated his son when he. As a kid, his father was very tough on him making him learn a lot of things and harshly punishing him if he does not comply. I think this is the way the father act because he wants to toughen up his son to the harsh reality of life that he himself has to face as a kid. In my opinion, I think he is raising his son through tough love. It is interesting how as an adult the father still acts like a father by protecting his son. I am not sure about the burning of the story. Maybe it was so that the son doesn't succumb to the temptation that is writing an ethical story for the sake of money and fame. There is also a very interesting aspect of the story that was discussed was the fact that whether a person is qualified to talk about the traumatic experience of a race. Would the son be qualified to talk about the traumatic experience of his father?
