6/1 Le
In
the story “Love and Honour and Pity and Pride and Compassion and Sacrifice” Le
starts it with a lovely conversation between him and his father. His father
speaks Vietnamese to him and this reminds me that each time when my parents
come to my apartment to visit me, we go through the same process and they
always speak Chinese to me. One interesting about this story is that Le feels
difficult to write about Vietnam things in the beginning, but later he starts
to write his father’s experience after he understand the ethnic conflict. He
seems doesn’t want others to know his past and I can relate to that. As an Asian
American, I want to act like a normal American teens and want to get rid of my
Asian identity. Sometimes, this identity makes me to feel bad about myself. However,
after my parents spoke to me their Chinese immigrant story, I start to re-think
about my identity. Thus, I am willing to add my Asian-American things in my
paper and I start to acknowledge the ethnic problem.
