In the article Globalization and the Public Cartographies of Vietnam Idol written
by Long Bui, we learn that the Vietnam tries to recreate the American Idol in their country and it
fails due many reasons. One of the reasons that appears in the article is that
there is a lack of nationalism within the people. While I think that may be a
true statement, however, I do not think that is the major reason why the show
failed badly. There are two reasons which I think are the major reasons why it
did not succeed. The number one reason of why it could not succeed is because
there are not enough households who own a TV. Citing from a student in my
discussion, their economy is just developing and there are not that many
households who are wealthy enough to own their own TV, which is why it could
not succeed. Another reason why I think that the show fails to continue is
because there are lack of advertisement. Since this idea of American Idol has been introduced to us
for a long while now, they have no problem keeping a good number of the audience.
However, this is not the same for Vietnam since this is a new concept for them.
They need to advertise their show a lot more in order to get their people to
get familiar with this new type of singing competitions.
