In Fiske’s
article, introduced “the power of the consumer” and its effect on women.
Although I cannot see from female’s perspective, I would agree with that claim
regardless because I’m a heavy consumer for fashion. I like to keep up with the
most trendy streetwear brands and I would wait in line for 10 hours just to get
the trendiest item in my collections. Some people call us the “hypebeast” and I
can pretty much agree with this title. Some people would say that it is not
smart to waste money on big brands because there are always cheaper
alternatives at somewhere else with almost identical quality. However, some of
us do not think of it like that. We think that being the consumers for the
expensive brands shows a slight feeling of superiority, because not everyone
are able to afford those items. This type of superiority is something that
women can hardly get in a patriarchal society. That is why these materialistic
items is very attractive to them, because it provides slight boost of
confident.
