5/30 Fiske & Jordan

Both Jordan and Fiske’s article discuss about peaceful resistance without any forms of violence. Jordan’s article focuses on the event called “Reclaim the Streets” which took place in London. Jordan’s article speaks heavily on ideas in which these protests brought bad old traditions such as the street carnival. This reminds me of how people are seem to protest today. Many of our protests are peaceful because it doesn’t involve violence. Most of our protests involve walks and sign carrying which involves no one getting hurt. Meanwhile, In Fiske’s article, it discusses how women typically do not have many options when unaccompanied. So women showing some form of power when shopping alone at a mall or grocery store allows them to test the the stereotypes set upon them. Looking back on this article now and comparing it today, it has changed significantly. This connects to the film Merchants of Cool because it shows people going against what media has set up for them. Men, women, and children use shopping as a tool of pleasure and leisure because they look at things in which they are interested in. When going to a shopping center, you can see many people going by themselves because people are now able to go to places alone without judgment.
