The main theme of this documentary was popular culture. Companies hire researchers to find out what is “hip” and what is in nowadays in order to know what to produce and what to sell. New products are constantly trending. For example, right now all the kids seem to be into fidget spinners (I think that's what those are called but I'm not sure because I'm getting old). Who knows how long this trend will last? People are heavily influenced by popular celebrities. I've noticed that people don't even have to like the celebrity to want to follow the trend that a certain celebrity is setting. This reminds me of the Kardashians and Jenners, specifically Kylie. I often hear people say "I hate Kim but I love her makeup" or "I don't like Kylie but I have her on snapchat and I follow her on Instagram." Kylie is perpetually launching new products on Kylie Cosmetics. Every time a new product launches, her fans go wild. Her matte liquid lipsticks were very popular and everyone and their mother wanted a lip kit. It was the first makeup product she had ever released and it quickly sold out. People weren't sure if the product would be good but Kylie wore it, it looked good on Kylie, and people want to look like Kylie because Kylie is popular. Yikes.
