5/2/2017-Aoki/Deporting Cambodian
The
documentary shown in class Aoki, was a good watch. It's always somewhat
endearing to watch a life of a human unfolds before your very eyes. I like how
the documentary go in depth about the past life of Aoki and how it was to be
living in a camp. I really like how he tell his story of him and his friends
little trip towards the mountain area. It just goes to show how suffocating
camp was for little children and how they are not expose at all to the outside
world. I also very much enjoy the part of him fighting for Asian American right
while being in school. It is very motivating to watch somewhat fight so hard
for something they believe in. The documentary also shows how bloody and
violent these marches can become and how the government actually react quite
violently towards the people who were participating in these marches. All in
all, I quite enjoy the documentary that was show in class and I do admire Aoki
as a person for being able to speak his mind
For
the reading this time, we read about deportation of refugees. This text was a
bit harder to swallow compare to some other text because the subject describe
in the text is very sensitive to a lot of Asian American. In the text, many
people were unjustly deported for crimes that they have committed for as long
as ten years before. Not only that they already served the sentence that was
associated with the crime they committed. This is very unfair and it makes me
lose some trust in the government system that is currently in place. As an
international student who among one of my plan is to maybe become an US
citizen, it makes me consider the trouble I might have to face in the future.
The text also shines a light into the government system and how it only
prioritize the people of voting age and ignore minors who cannot vote. The
youth in the text were ignore because their does not really matter yet because
they cannot vote. This is an unjust treatment of a system where supposedly
everyone has an equal say in everything
