Week 3 Scott, James reading 4/20/17

In the article From Weapons of the Weak, James Scott gives a critical analysis with regards to people who are oppressed by the dominant group and how the idea of rebellion can be very tricky for the dominant groups. The dominant group here are the government, elites, or wealthy classes. An example to demonstrate this idea is the relationship between employees and the employer. The employees usually want to see an increased in their salary. However, the employer is always looking for ways to pay the employees as little as possible. While the employees do not get a pay raise as they wish, they would show signs of rebellion by breaking the rules or stealing from their workplace. Therefore, the employers is constantly concerned with the possible rebellion from their employees while trying to pay them as little as possible. I find this reading very interesting because it relates to me personally as I'm also working. I feel that sometimes my boss do not pay me enough for what I do. However, I still follow the rules establish for me. This is because I have respect for my boss and I do not wish to disrupt the function of my workplace due to my personal dissatisfaction. This is also the same for many other people. Although it is true that there are dissatisfaction with people and there could be rebellions against the ruler, it does not mean that people will take that into actions. As there are people who value laws and orders a very high priority, there are also people who would rather live by the rules rather than to rebel against their ruler.
