week 2 Truth & Power 4/13/17
In the article Truth
and power, Foucault gives a very broad definition of truth. Foucault
believes that truth can be defined into five different definition. The first
definition of truth that Foucault believes is that truth is discovered by
science. An example of this is Creativism vs Evolutionism. Before science was
advance enough, people used to believe that god created human. However, science
later proves that is not case and people later learn about the truth about
human’s origin. The second definition Foucault gives is that truth is subject to
economic and politicans because they want to know about what people really want
in order to supply their demand. The third definition of truth is that truth is
transmitted through information and education which is broadly received by
people. The forth definition of truth is that people learn truth under control
and dominance. For example, we learn from schools, military, and media about
truth. The last definition of truth is that truth is subject to social conflicts
and political debates. For example, we sometimes feel like other people’s truth
is in conflict with ours and we try to fight for ours by protesting.
