Gramsci and Foucalt, 4/13
In 'The Prison Notebook",
Gramsci discusses a very interesting point that despite what people think
everyone is a philosophical in their own sense. In my opinion, the only
difference that is separating a real philosopher and a so called "commoner"
is that one is trained in the art of critical thinking and can organize their
thought on a subject rather quickly. On the other hand, the
"commoner" have some more trouble having one fluent thought about the
subject. I think this was touch upon the excerpt when Gramsci mentioned the
church and how it must now separate the "simple" men from the
intellectual. In religion, the individual consciousness might be reduce by the
teaching of the church to conform each individual to follow the teaching of the
church. It is also evident when Gramsci mention the fact that the church limit
the education of the "simple", but also limit the knowledge
acquirable to the more educated; however they refuse to split the religion for
the two different groups
