Chapter 4 of Filipinos Represent written by Antonio T. Tiongson Jr. raised many questions with regards to the Hip – Hop culture. Some of the questions that he asks in the text, for example, are about the origin of Hip - Hop, why does it matter, how does the roots affect other races in the Hip - Hop industry. Then he concludes at the end of the chapter that black culture is something that we all can plunder from regardless of what race. I agree with this thinking and I would like to add some more depth to this article. The origin of Hip Hop comes from African music and breakbeats. This is one of the reasons why the African American embrace Hip Hop so much. Then as Hip Hop slowly align with punk rock and develops into mainstream music, Hip Hop artists start to use reality rap which seem to encourage violent and crime. As a result of that, women is another group of people which struggled with trying to get attention for their music in the Hip Hop industry. Therefore, the Hip Hop culture has been discriminating groups of people who are not black males. However, this has slowly improved and been more accepting to women as well as Filipinos and many other groups.
