4/27 - From Beyond a Boundary & Hind Swaraj
In
Mahatma Gandhi, Hind Sawaj, he
discusses how India can liberate itself by breaking their dependence from
Western machine and materialism. Instead of suggesting a revolution, which is
more violent and dangerous, he brings a similar approach of everyday
resistances. The reading is an important and powerful to remind me that not
everything has to be centralized through colonial power, and people have the
agency to decide what change they want to see. For example, Gandhi states how
the British can still be part of India, but it will be under the terms of the
Indian people. He is shifting the dynamic of power by not being compliant to
the normalized oppression and openly vocalizing what he wants. I thought this
aspect of the reading was inspiring since I often contemplate the significances
and deltas of reformative and abolishment methods of activism. Referring back
to the dialectic, I realize that both of these methods can hold multiple truths
at the same time.
