4/20 Scott Kelley

In both Scott and Kelley’s articles, they both present the idea of rebellion. With this theory, Scott focuses on previous times and eras in which peasants would protect in a non-public display. These include slowing down on work, stealing, sabotage, etc. All hidden from people of power and status because if they were to ever be seen protesting, peasants would suffer greatly. He calls peasants a powerless group and therefore result to using these forms of rebellion. Meanwhile in Kelley’s article, I found it to be more intriguing because of the fact of how it more relates to society today in which how people act similarly to the people presented in Kelley’s McDonald's anecdote. I personally felt like that his stories of how customers mistreated him and his co-workers because of their status and race is a clear act of class exploitation. This is where people of lower power such as the working class work effortlessly for payment where the product is worth more than the labor itself. This idea of class exploitation ties into social ideas of alienation in which people such as peasants have little to no say of what they want due to the fact of how unequal pay for their labor was.
