4/20 Kelley & Scott

Both Kelley and Scott's reading discusses the concept of everyday forms of resistance through scenarios of the marginalized groups. These readings made me think about the current forms of resistance, of how different it is with the advancement of technology and all. The first thing that popped into my head about current everyday forms of resistance is the social media. My Peer Resources teacher, back in high school, started a hashtag regarding racial injustice. Even though it was a small hashtag, it had a great impact. My teacher went on to create workshops focusing on Islamophobia.

Every day form of resistance vs. Large movement, both address the same issue but approach it from different perspectives. Any individual can resist with minimal consequences, in fact, they might get what they want in return. For example, working slow to get longer breaks. A large movement needs to be organized and there are more consequences that come with it. For example, a protest about police brutality may lead to protesters getting beaten and/or go to jail. I believe that everyday forms of resistance are more effective in making a change. Even the little things matter.
