4/13 Readings
In Gramsci’s “From the Prison Notebooks,” he made some interesting points about philosophy. The first was that, in order for one to have a conception of the world, then you will always be in some sort of group which contains that way of thinking, or acting. This is in agreement with one of Foucault’s points in “Truth and Power.” Foucault may have been referring to the idea of Truth in this text, however he explained that, a person has a specific position which is linked to their class position, conditions of life and work, as well as the politics of truth in their society. I think that the group which contains a way of thinking and acting, from Gramsci, and the class, life, and politics of truth that Foucault refers to are in a way very similar to each other. However Gramsci was connecting this to philosophy and Foucault was referring to truth. Gramsci then went onto distinguish differences between philosophy, religion, as well as common sense. While Foucault spoke about how truth can be thought of in terms of political problems.
